I
am a vanilla-obsessed eater, baker and cook. I live in a beautiful
little corner of Cape Town, and document my adventures in and out of the
kitchen here, in my little corner of cyberspace.
It
began when I was a little girl of four, with wild curls, and a plastic
stripey clown apron, helping my mom in the kitchen, pretending to stir
when I was really just licking the bowl. I grew up in a house where
small portions didn’t exist – there was always enough food for seconds,
and for the rest of the street.
A
few years later I graduated from UCT (English and Politics) and longed
to escape Cape Town for a while. I needed a desperate change of scenery -
I decided to go to France for a year, and immerse myself in the local
cuisine, while working in the hospitality industry there.
When
I returned to South Africa, I managed a 5* guest house in the coastal
village of Knysna – this allowed me to explore my creativity in the
kitchen, through cooking 3-course dinners for guests, and executing all
catering.
The Gorgeous Gourmet started in October 2010, after much encouragement from my amazing fiance Luke (aka The Lovely Man). It exists to show you the best recipes, restaurants and wines.

I am grateful for every opportunity that comes my way due to my blog. However, as my blog is a very personal representation of me, I have put a few guidelines in place:
Events:
I am mostly interested in events that
focus on food or food related products. I am unfortunately unable to attend
events during working hours (Monday – Friday between 08h30 and 17h00). If I do
attend, a blog post will be at my own discretion, depending on how interesting
and informative I believe it will be for my readers.
Product Reviews:
Assuming the product is food or food
related, I will be more than happy to test it and use it in my kitchen. A blog
post is not guaranteed, and if I do blog about it I will disclose where I
received the product from, and that it was a gift.
Restaurant and Accommodation reviews:
I will happily visit / review your
restaurant / hotel / guesthouse, ideally in the greater Cape Town area and surrounds. I am available
weekday evenings and weekends, and will bring my fiancé with me. Please note a
review on my blog will only be guaranteed if the meal and experience is
exceptional – I don’t do negative reviews. This blog is my happy space, and I
only share things I love. If I do share the review on my blog, I will disclose
that I was invited to enjoy the meal as a guest, and did not pay for it. Click here to view some of the reviews I have published.
Advertising:
I do have limited advertising space
available – if you are interested, please email me at alwayscandice (at) gmail
(dot) com. Please note, all proposals will be accepted or rejected at my own
discretion, and only ads featuring food or food related products will be
considered.
